Red Thread in the Arts

Stacey Hogue, an artist in Pennsylvania, sent me a copy of this beautiful artwork of hers, saying that she couldn’t get this movement out of her head. I thought that this was worth passing on. If you’re near her, it would be worth going to see in person at her show in June!

Time to Face Up!

This is Stacey’s description of the piece:

” I titled this piece “Time to Face Up”.  The faceless ones represent those who are bound in sexual slavery.  It seems to me that this trade can flourish because of the relative anonymity of the girls involved.  The ones with closed eyes represent ones who are rescued and in the process of healing.  The one who is facing the viewer is asking, “What are you going to do about this problem?”  I think of her as being one who has been empowered to change her circumstances.”

You can hear more about Stacey and her work at www.greenpinetree.wordpress.com.

If you are an artist who is interested in creating a piece inspired by the issue of trafficking, we would love to post your submissions. Donations of artwork is also accepted. All proceeds from the sale of any donated artwork will go towards furthering the Red Thread Movement.

Thanks again Stacey for the inspiration!
